NEW Leisure Reading Area!

The Gilmer Elementary School library is pleased to show the NEW leisure reading area in our facility.  The new sofas were purchased through our collection of Box Tops for Education.  Thanks to the generosity of the students, teachers, and community members, we raised enough money in Box Tops that we were able to provide the students with the seating pictured below.  It has been so enjoyable to see the excited reactions of students and teachers as they view the new area for the first time.  THANK YOU for supporting our school through Box Tops for Education!!!

Celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday

At the library this week, the Gilmer Elementary first graders had the opportunity to read a biography of Dr. Seuss' life entitled, The Boy on Fairfield Street: How Ted Geisel Grew Up to Be Dr. Seuss by Kathleen Krull.  The students loved learning facts about Dr. Seuss' childhood.  Many students realized they had several things in common with this beloved children's author.  The library also had a special visit from Mrs. Griffin's Kindergarten class as they were busy celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday.

Girls Book Club Update

The third grade girls had a wonderful time at the Buckeye Book Club during the past four weeks.  These young ladies read the novel, The Penguin Problem by Abby Klein.  Each week they participated in a variety of activities including games, crafts, dance contests, and their favorite activity: eating snacks!  They also read biographies of famous women and completed a book report which will be added to this blog soon.  A special thanks to each student for making the Buckeye Book Club a success!
