Second Meeting of the Buckeye Book Club=SUCCESS!
On September 19th, the library was full of excited students that were ready to attend the second meeting of the Buckeye Book Club. The students read Miss Nelson Has a Field Day by James Marshall. Then all students had the chance to check out an extra book from the library. All students also created "Good Luck" signs for the Gilmer Buckeye Football team. We wish them the best of luck at their Homecoming game!

Second Buckeye Book Club Meeting-TOMORROW!
Just a reminder for any fourth grader that is a Buckeye Book Club Member: We will meet tomorrow from 4:00-5:15. In order to stay, your parent must have filled out a permission form and it should have been turned in to the library already. Students can wait in the 4th grade car rider room until 4:00. Then all book club members will be sent to the library. Parents, please sign your child out at the library by 5:15. Tomorrow we will be working on a special project for the Gilmer Buckeye Football team! I look forward to seeing my Buckeye Book Club Members!

The FIRST Buckeye Book Club meeting
The first Buckeye Book Club meeting was a success! 57 students met in the library to read The Patriotism Project by Linda Skeers. Then all students created bookmarks and cards to send to deployed soldiers. Great job 4th grade students!

Mixing Literature with Science!
Last week Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Moore read Bartholomew and the Oobleck by Dr. Seuss to their Science classes. After reading this entertaining book, each class made oobleck. Then they investigated oobleck to find out if it is a solid or liquid. Oobleck has properties of a solid AND a liquid! Check out this great book at the G.E.S. library!

1st Grade Reader's Response--So Creative!
This first grader from Mrs. Gee's homeroom wrote a wonderful reader's response over the book, Froggy Rides a Bike by Jonathan London. Great job, Thomas Whitworth!
4th Grade Student Book Review--A Must Read!
Read All About Me by
Laura Bush and Jenna Bush
In the book Read All about
Me by Laura Bush and Jenna Bush, Tyrone, the main character didn’t like
reading because it looked boring. I was like Tyrone because I didn’t like
reading. Me and Tyrone would not read. But in third grade my teacher Mrs. Henry told
my class a story. When she got in the
middle of the story I thought all the characters were real. I felt like the characters were my friends. Tyrone’s teacher read his whole class a book. The whole class was listening to it than he
started listening to the book and he thought the pig was real. He thought the pig was his friend. Tyrone is just like me. Tyrone and I finally listened to the book. We both thought it was real. Tyrone and I love reading now.

Box Tops for Education
Please remember to save your box tops! The Box Tops for Education program is a wonderful program that will allow Gilmer Elementary School to purchase resources for our students. Box tops are located on a number of products, such as cereal boxes, frozen food boxes, apparel packages, and much more. Simply cut off the box top, glue it on a collection sheet (located in the library), and bring your completed collection sheet to the library. We will submit the box tops and our school will earn money. Just this year, we have submitted over $700.00 worth of box tops! We will be able to provide our students with fabulous resources through this great program. If you are interested in volunteering to count and organize box tops, please email me at reneauv@gilmerisd.org. For more information, check out the Box Tops for Education website!
